My name is Michael D Smejkal, but you can call me Smudge D. I am a Christian label founder, producer, and hip-hop artist, having established Higher Power Ent in 2020 during the pandemic with the support of my team. Our mission is to bring healing and deliverance to a world filled with hatred and evil. The label has gained recognition on platforms like Movement Underground 9.0, Your Hope Radio, and the Gospel Music Awards.

Born in Illinois to a kind-hearted mother and abusive father figures involved in drugs, my early life was marked by hardship and instability. After fleeing danger, we moved frequently for years, facing poverty and violence, even sleeping on the streets at times.

At 15, I discovered hip-hop, using an electric keyboard and a karaoke machine to create music. However, I found myself drawn into gang culture in Chicago, struggling with addiction to liquor, cocaine, and heroin, leading to numerous overdoses. Hitting rock bottom after losing my girlfriend and caring for my dying mother, I finally heard God's call during my darkest days.

In 2019, I moved to Colorado and was reborn in my faith, focusing on healing through Christ. In 2022, I launched the Faith from Flames Podcast, reaching individuals navigating their own darkness with messages of hope and love.

In December 2024, I partnered with Orlando Page as Editor-in-Chief of CHH JAMZ Magazine, which debuted in January 2025, featuring CHH artist Bertrand McKinney. The magazine serves as a vibrant hub for independent artists and fans, keeping readers updated on events, new music, and charity opportunities, making it a must-read for Christian hip-hop enthusiasts!
